What we're learning about Newdle Watch and how to make it even better

October 2026

We're just a few weeks out from soft launch, and having more real creators on Newdle Watch is teaching us a ton. Here's what we're seeing, and a few asks in return.

1. Length

45 to 75 seconds is the sweet spot for both views and watch time; past that, drop-off gets steep. Some stories need more room, but when you can, aim for that window.

2. Audio

Crisp, clear audio with no echo or hum makes the biggest difference in a video's performance. We've seen a lot of variation in levels: some videos too quiet, some with noticeable echo. We're building tools to auto-adjust levels a bit, but they'll only get you so far, so please keep an ear on your sound before you post. If you're using music underneath, watch that it doesn't creep up too loud.

3. Story overlap

We're noticing a lot of creators gravitating to the same story, which means viewers see multiple takes on one story and almost nothing on others, and we know most of you would rather bring a unique angle anyway. So you can claim your story ahead of time in the story claims spreadsheet, which will be shared later. A couple of guardrails: only claim stories you'll post within about 24 hours, and check that no one's already claimed it before you do.

4. Overlay cropping

The player fills as much of the screen as possible, which on some mobile devices can crop overlays that sit too close to the edge. Give your captions and overlays a little breathing room from the edges (especially the bottom edge which is filled by the dossier in our mobile app) and you'll generally be fine.

5. Caption duplication

Newdle Watch is meant to provide viewers with context they can dig into inside Newdle itself. The dossier on each story includes the summary, sources, claim detection, media, timelines, blueprints, and more. Your captions don't need to re-do that work; let the dossier carry the context.

6. CTAs

We love that you're building your presence elsewhere, and you're welcome to link your other platforms in your profile. We'd just ask that you avoid CTAs inside Newdle Watch videos that call out other platforms by name (TikTok, YouTube, etc.). We want Newdle Watch to feel like a Newdle space.

7. One topic per video

Since Newdle Watch is built to give real-time context, either tag all the relevant stories a video touches on, or keep the video to a single topic.

Thanks for building with us this early. You've been giving us great feedback along the way too, and we know there's plenty on our end still to improve.

Section 7 of the Newdle Creator Terms refers to these guidelines.
